Where Jesus and the other children were boisterous and played loudly together, getting into mischief, stealing fruit, shouting out rude names and running away, picking fights, throwing stones, daubing mud on house walls, catching sparrows, Christ clung to his motherââ¬â¢s skirts and spent hours in reading and prayer. One day Mary went to the house of a neighbour who was a dyer. Jesus and Christ both came with her, and while she was talking to the dyer, with Christ close by her side, Jesus went into the workshop. He looked at all the vessels containing different coloured dyes, and dipped a finger in each one, and then wiped them on the pile of cloths waiting to be dyed. Then he thought that the dyer would notice and be angry with him, so he bundled up the entire pile and thrust it all into the vessel containing a black dye. He went back to the room where his mother was talking to the dyer, and Christ saw him and said, ââ¬ËMama, Jesus has done something wrong.ââ¬â¢ Jesus had his hands behind him. ââ¬ËShow me your hands,ââ¬â¢ said Mary. He brought his hands around to show. They were coloured black, red, yellow, purple and blue. ââ¬ËWhat have you been doing?ââ¬â¢ she said. Alarmed, the dyer ran into his workshop. Bulging out of the top of the vessel with the black dye was an untidy heap of cloth, besmeared and stained with black, and with other colours as well. ââ¬ËOh no! And the child pulled it out of the vessel, and it was red all over. Then he pulled out each of the remaining cloths, asking the dyer what colour it should be, and so they were: each piece was perfectly dyed just as the customer had ordered it. The dyer marvelled, and Mary embraced the child Christ and kissed him again and again, filled with joy at the goodness of the little fellow. Another time Jesus was playing beside the ford across a brook, and he made some little sparrows out of mud and set them all up in a row. A pious Jew who was passing saw what he was doing and went to tell Joseph. ââ¬ËYour son has broken the sabbath!ââ¬â¢ he said. ââ¬ËDo you know what heââ¬â¢s doing down by the ford? You should control your children!ââ¬â¢ Joseph hurried to see what Jesus was doing. Christ had heard the man shouting, and followed close behind Joseph. You know this is the sabbath.ââ¬â¢ They were going to punish Jesus, but Christ clapped his hands, and at once the sparrows came alive and flew away. The little boy was so modest and thoughtful, not a bit like his brother. But the children of the town preferred Jesus. The Visit to Jerusalem When the twins were twelve years old, Joseph and Mary took them to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. They travelled down in a company of other families, and there were many adults to keep an eye on the children. After the festival, when they were gathering everyone together to leave, Mary made sure that Christ was with her, and said to him: ââ¬ËWhere is Jesus? I canââ¬â¢t see him anywhere.ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËI think heââ¬â¢s with the family of Zachaeus,ââ¬â¢ said Christ. ââ¬ËHe was playing with Simon and Jude. He told me he was going to travel home with them.ââ¬â¢ So they set off, and Mary and Joseph thought no more about him, imagining him safe with the other family. But when it was time for the evening meal, Mary sent Christ to Zachaeusââ¬â¢s family to call Jesus, and he came back excited and anxious. ââ¬ËHeââ¬â¢s not with them! He told me he was going to play with them, but he never did! They havenââ¬â¢t seen him anywhere!ââ¬â¢ Mary and Joseph searched among their relatives and friends, and asked every group of travellers if they had seen Jesus, but none of them knew where he was. This one said they had last seen him playing outside the temple, that one said they had heard him say he was going to the marketplace, another said they were sure he was with Thomas, or Saul, or Jacob. In the end Joseph and Mary had to accept that he had been left behind, and they packed their things away and turned back towards Jerusalem. Christ rode on the donkey, because Mary was worried that he might be tired. They searched through the city for three days, but Jesus was nowhere to be found. Finally Christ said, ââ¬ËMama, should we go to the temple and pray for him?ââ¬â¢ Since they had looked everywhere else, they thought they would try that. And as soon as they entered the temple grounds, they heard a commotion. ââ¬ËThatââ¬â¢ll be him,ââ¬â¢ said Joseph. Sure enough, it was. The priests had found Jesus daubing his name on the wall with clay, and were deciding how to punish him. ââ¬ËItââ¬â¢s only clay!ââ¬â¢ he was saying, brushing the dirt off his hands. ââ¬ËAs soon as it rains, itââ¬â¢ll come off again! Since he had pleaded so well, they allowed Jesus to go unpunished. But on the way back to Nazareth, Joseph said privately to Jesus, ââ¬ËWhat were you thinking of, to upset your mother like that? You know how tender-hearted she is. She was worried sick about you.ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËAnd you, Father, were you worried?ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËI was worried for her, and I was worried for you.ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËYou didnââ¬â¢t need to worry for me. I was safe enough.ââ¬â¢ Joseph said no more. The Coming of John Time went past, and the two boys grew to manhood. Jesus learned the trade of carpentry, and Christ spent all his time in the synagogue, reading the scriptures and discussing their meanings with the teachers. Secondly, I noted that I am a motivational leader who hardly gives up even when the situation is very tough. In regard to the study we conducted together with my c olleagues, there were many difficulties especially when making appointment because the departmental heads are always busy. For instance, we could find the offices closed when trying to look for the lecturers in charge of the departments. However, I was always optimistic even if the situations were very difficult. I could persuade my colleagues to find an appointment despite the absence of those heads. This persistence could always bear fruits. Poor Attributes Despite the good attributes, I realized that there are various aspects that impair my leadership skills. In this case, one of the main poor aspects is lack of accommodativeness. I believe in my opinions more than the ones provided by my colleagues. I always enter into unnecessary arguments in order to convince my colleagues rather than understanding their sentiments. I am tempted to make decisions alone and implement them. This has developed a tendency of having the willingness to implement the opinions that I have provided and discarding the ones provided by other people. This behavior has impacted the unity of the academic group which I have been leading for the last one year. The effect of this vice is neutralized by the validity of my opinions because I always provide viable ideas. However, it is not right to believe in personal opinions resolutely. This is one of the main attributes that I should eliminate in order to attain a highly reputable and effective leadership. Another, vice that impacts the effectiveness of my leadership skills is incapability of solving conflicts between team members. When I am solving conflicts, I tend to favor one party over the other in accordance to my personal preferences and morals. For example, I am tempted to make a premature judgment on a person if they have made some other mistakes in the past. During my research for this module, I have realized that conflicts should be considered individually. When solving a conflict, leaders should not use past perception to adj udge a case or solve a conflict (Eunson, 2007). Instead, they should consider the aspects of that conflict as a separate case from the past ones. This will form the basis of improving conflict management which is one of the most important aspects of leadership. Another crucial lesson that I have learned in the course of this module is that leadership does not only incorporate fine speaking and excellent content (Bass Riggio, 2006). Instead, it needs a leader to listen to other people because listening is the sole tool of obtaining much knowledge. Leadership Development Plan There are various practices that I will embrace in order to develop my leadership skills in line with my views of a good leader. In this regard, I will be aiming at developing the power of accommodating other people by appreciating, considering, and implementing their opinions. I understand that leadership is an art that can be practiced and learned by all people. Consequently, accommodativeness is a practice th at can also be learned and practiced. As a result, when interacting with my colleagues, I will be slow at giving opinions about the issues that are discussed. By doing this, I will train to listen to other peopleââ¬â¢s opinions and become less argumentative. This will provide a good opportunity of obtaining new knowledge about issues. In addition, I will improve my motivational skills in order to become proficient in inspiring my colleagues. In this regard, I will be reading some books concerning leadership theories and principles. This will help in obtaining vast knowledge on leadership. I consider these theories as crucial aspects of leadership although most people have dismissed theoretical approach to leadership. Such people contend that practical approach is the only basis that can develop proficient leadership skills. However, we cannot live long to learn from our experiences only. Instead, we should read the theories that have been tested and proven through experimentation . In fact, it should be said that theories are the documentation of practical experiences. This implies that theories are developed from the practical implementation of the practices elucidated in the theoretical frameworks. As a result, leadership principles will be part of my leadership development plan. Lastly, I will work on my skills of solving conflicts between team members which good leader should be capable of. This will be partly solved by studying theories about conflict managements. Since the theories cannot work without practice, I will be trying to solve any conflicts by applying those principles. Conclusion It is evident that leadership is a fundamental aspect in managing an organization. Additionally, it cannot be disputed that startup organizations need intense leadership that superintend the activities of the organizations since they do not have firm procedural frameworks.
